Each year for Chinese New Year, we like to take a look back to find the incoming Chinese Zodiac animal in commercials of the past. The pig is the 12th year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. Often affiliated with the qualities of laziness and gluttony, pigs are also thought to bring affluence to people and are consequently regarded as symbols of wealth. If that’s true, we don’t mind looking past all of their perceived shortcomings.

猪是中国十二生肖循环中的最后一个属相。通常来讲,人们认为猪是懒惰的、贪吃的。同时猪也被认为是财富的象征。如果猪真的能给人们带来财富,那我们也就不介意接受它的种种缺点。

Despite people’s perception of them as dirty, dumb animals, pigs are actually quite smart. This might be why they have such a successful track record in many of the great commercials we have seen over the years. 

尽管人们认为它们是肮脏,愚蠢的动物,但实际上猪非常聪明。这也就是为什么我们这么多年来都能在很成功的商业广告中看到他们的身影的原因。

As the year of the Pig approaches, we thought we would take a moment to look at some great pig-related spots to remind people that the year of the pig is something we can all feel good about whether or not it brings us wealth.

随着金猪将近,我们认为我们有必要回顾一下这些过去重要的节点,同时提醒人们不管猪能不能带来财富,今年都将是美好幸运的一年。

 

DORITOS: PIGS CAN FLY

多力多滋:会飞的猪

In 2015 two brothers, Nelson and Graham Talbot, were awarded $50,000 after their commercial for Doritos won second place in Dorito’s Super Bowl advertisement competition and was broadcast during the game.

2015年,尼尔森(Nelson)和格雷厄姆·塔尔博(Graham Talbot)兄弟俩凭借广告《会飞的猪》(Pigs Can Fly)在多力多滋(Doritos)超级碗(Super Bowl)比赛广告竞稿中勇夺第二。该广告不仅被品牌方采纳也在比赛时成功播出。

Not too bad for an idea that was written in the basement of their parents’ home and one of 900 submissions from 29 countries.

GEICO – WEE WEE WEE ALL THE WAY HOME FLY

GEICO – 一路猪叫

Geico featured a fun loving pig, Maxwell, in their campaigns from 2010 – 2012.  Maxwell was a national sensation in the U.S. and quickly became a household name.

可爱而又有趣的小猪麦克斯韦尔(Maxwell)是美国GEICO公司2010年至2012年广告中的主角。麦克斯韦尔登陆荧幕后迅速在全美范围内引起了轰动并成为了一个家喻户晓的名字。

The original TVC that featured Maxwell “weeing” down the road with his head out a car window was supposed to be a one-off. But response to the pig was overwhelmingly positive, so Geico decided to create a whole campaign around him.

THE GUARDIAN : THREE LITTLE PIGS

英国卫报:三只小猪

In 2012 the Guardian created a spectacular commercial around the tale of the Three Little Pigs and how the modern world might cover it in print and online. This advert was their first major TV spot for 25 years. The aim of the campaign was to promote the paper’s open journalistic approach to involving its readership in not just commenting on stories, but contributing to and even determining its news agenda.

2012年,英国卫报(the Guardian)围绕三只小猪创造了颇为吸睛的广告,广告里讲述了三只小猪的故事同时以现代世界的视角展示人们是如何在纸媒和网络媒体上对其作出相应回应的。这则广告是卫报25年来的首个主要电视广告。该活动的目的是推广该报纸的新闻公开性,鼓励读者不不仅仅对报道进行评论,还要对其新闻的安排做出相应贡献甚至是提出决定性意见。

The advert, created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) won multiple awards; most prominently the Cannes Lion awards and Grand CLIO  in the film and film craft categories. They also picked up some more metal at the Eurobest Awards, Business Insider’s 10 Best Ads of 2012, The British Arrow Craft Awards, TED: Ads Worth Spreading and The Adweek Awards 2012.

这则广告的制作人Bartle Bogle Hegarty(BBH)告赢得了多个奖项,其中最著名的是戛纳金狮奖(Cannes Lion Awards)和克里奥广告奖(Grand CLIO)。此外,还获得了欧洲最佳广告奖(Eurobest Awards)、商业内幕(Business Insider)2012年十佳广告奖、,英国电视广告奖(the British Arrow Craft Awards)、TED最具创博价值奖和2012广告周大奖(the Adweek Awards)。

TROJAN CONDOMS:PIG TROJANS

特洛伊安全套:特洛伊猪

Trojan Condoms launched a provocative campaign on North American television in 2007, featuring a bar full of women and pigs. One pig, while in the men’s bathroom, discovers a Trojan condom dispenser. As he walks back into the bar he evolves into an attractive human male, immediately catching the attention of the woman who had previously been disturbed by his advances.
特洛伊木马避孕套(Trojan Condoms)于2007年在北美发起了一部撩人心弦的电视广告。广告展示的酒吧里女郎与猪的故事。一只猪,在男洗手间里发现一个特洛伊安全套售卖机。当他走回酒吧时,他发现酒吧里出现了另一位有魅力的男性,而这位新人吸引了原本属于它的全部女郎的目光。The campaign was actually banned from a number of major networks including FOX and CBS. These networks stated that these commercials were too provocative and didn’t stress the health related issues relating to safe sex. Mind you, these networks were OK with broadcasting Paris Hilton’s Burger King commercial.I guess it’s OK when the men aren’t represented as the piece of meat…

这则广告被当时许多包括FOX和CBS在内的主流网络媒体纷纷禁播。这些网络媒体表示,这则商业广告过于情色且没有强调与安全性行为有关的相关健康问题。需要注意的是,这些网络媒体却同意播放了由帕丽斯·希尔顿(Paris Hilton)主演的汉堡王广告。

CHIPOTLE: BACK TO THE START

CHIPOTLE:重回起点

Chipotle went above and beyond in 2011 for their short animated film, Back to the Start.

Chipotle在短片动画片《重回起点》(Back to the Start)中完成了自身升华。

To execute this film seamlessly, the team first replicated the scenes and the set digitally. Once they were happy with what they were seeing they took their digital 3D models and printed them into physical figurines. From there a dedicated team went through the painstaking task of executing the stop motion film.

为了顺利地完成这部短片,制作团队首先以数字化的方式复制了不同的场景。当他们对看到的数字化场景感到满意后便会将这些场景转换为数字3D模型并且3D打印出来。

从制作电脑场景开始,一个敬业的团队就展开了一项艰难的任务——制作这部无定格动画。

The hard work and level of craft that went into the production did not go unnoticed as the team received industry recognition from just about every major award show. The amount of prizes this film has won is simply too long to mention here.
