Mate Toth Widamon is a cinematographer originally from Hungary. He attended the Cinematography Department of the National Hungarian Film School and NFS in England. (BA, MA, DLA).

Mate Toth Widamon 是一位来自匈牙利的摄影指导。他曾就读于匈牙利国家电影学院电影摄影系和英国的国家电影学院NFS (艺术本科, 艺术硕士, DLA)。

Since graduation he has shot over 500 commercials and been fortunate enough to collaborate with some of the most highly acclaimed commercial directors in London, Milan, Shanghai, Bangkok, Saigon, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Budapest.

自毕业以来，他已拍摄了500多部商业广告，并有幸与不少来自伦敦、米兰、上海、曼谷、西贡、东京、洛杉矶和布达佩斯的当地知名广告导演进行合作。

He also had the chance to shoot 7 feature films in Europe and he was honoured to receive the “Best Cinematography”award two times by the National Film Board as well as the Hungarian Film Critics Award.

他还曾在欧洲拍摄过七部故事片，并两次获得国家电影委员会颁发的“最佳摄影奖”和匈牙利电影评论家奖。

With his commercial work Mate twice won the Golden Eye Festival of Cinematography and his collaboration with German director Hermann Vaske on the Hornbach campaign was awarded a Lion at he Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

他的广告片作品曾两度获得金眼电影节的摄影大奖，他与德国导演Hermann Vaske合作的《Hornbach》（霍姆巴赫）系列广告片获得了戛纳国际创意节的“雄狮奖”。

Represented by SHP, Mate is currently based in Shanghai and he feels thrilled to be part of the Chinese advertising scene at such creatively exciting times.

由SHP公司代理，Mate现居上海，能在这样一个创意满满的时代成为中国广告业的一员，他感到激动又兴奋。

1. Coolest place you’ve been sent for work ? 去过这么多拍摄地，你觉得哪里最酷？

I was sent to an art boarding school at the age of 14 and since then, I have been constantly on the way due to my education and work.

在我14岁的时候上了艺术寄宿学校，从那以后，因为教育和工作的需求，我一直在路上。

I spent several years of my youth in the UK where I shot my first short films, pop promos and commercials. Later on due to my work I also spent some time in Munich, Frankfurt and Milan which I truly love too.

The coolest places I have been sent to work were Cape Town and Los Angeles where besides commercials I also shot a film with John Cleese and Dennis Hopper.

我年轻时在英国生活过几年，在那里我拍摄了我的第一部短片，流行宣传片和商业广告。后来由于工作的关系，我也曾在慕尼黑、法兰克福和米兰旅居过，这些城市我都很喜欢。

而我工作过的最酷的地方是开普敦和洛杉矶，当时除了拍摄商业广告，我还和John Cleese和Dennis Hopper一起拍摄了一部电影。

Now I truly love Shanghai and the advertising scene here is fantastic. I feel very lucky having the chance to meet so many talented and passionate industry professionals on every job here.

现在的我真的爱上了上海，这里的广告环境非常棒。在这里的每一份工作中，我都能遇到这么多才华横溢、充满激情的行业专业人士，我真是太幸运了。

3. Favorite movie of all time? 一直以来最爱的电影？

Some periods of cinema have been critically influential in my career, such as the French New Wave, the New York Avantgarde, the early works of Polish directors Polanski, Zanussi, Kieslowski and above all the Taiwanese and Hong Kong New Wave. The work of Hou-Hsiao Hsien, Tsai Ming Liang, Edward Yang, Wong Kar-Wai are not only influential in my work as a film maker, but also in my personal life, as they awakened my interest towards Asian culture and life.

When it comes to more contemporary directors, Thomas Vinterberg, Ruben Östlund, Paul Thomas Anderson are definitely on the top of my list.

有些时期的电影对我的职业生涯产生了重大影响，比如法国的新浪潮、纽约先锋、波兰的波兰斯基导演、扎努西、基耶斯洛夫斯基的早期作品，其中对我影响最大的是中国台湾和中国香港的电影新浪潮。侯孝贤、蔡明亮、杨德昌、王家卫的作品不仅影响了我作为一个电影人的职业生涯，也对我的个人生活产生了影响，唤醒了我对亚洲文化和生活的兴趣。如果要说当代导演（喜欢哪个），托马斯·温特伯格，鲁本·奥斯特伦德，保罗·托马斯·安德森绝对是我的首选。

4. Someone you would like to have dinner with? 想要和谁共进晚餐？

I would have loved to have had a chat over dinner with Alan Watts in the mid-sixties. He was a prolific writer, thinker, and speaker, one of the first to interpret Eastern wisdom for a western audience.

我很想在六十年代中期与Alan Watts共进晚餐。他是一位多产的作家、思想家和演说家，是最早向西方世界阐释东方智慧的人之一。

5. Your favorite creative project you’ve ever worked on, and why you like it so much? 最喜欢的项目是哪一个，为什么？

I truly enjoyed my early narrative projects in the UK as they were often about getting away from narrative conventions.

When it comes to commercials some Italian directors such as Federico Brugia, Luca Maroni, Dario Piana among others greatly inspired me creatively. I learnt that advertising is about constantly renewing your own stylistic and visual approach often by exploring and combining some of the latest and most advanced technologies.

I find my current commercial projects here in China very exciting too. Collaborating with fellow film makers like Wang Limin, JBL, Shigeto Rage Sayama, Howie Lin, or Fender Hsu – to name a few highly talented Shanghanese directors – gives the opportunity to inspire each other whilst overcoming great challenges. By filling each other’s gaps, and putting our knowledge and values on the table, we are rooted both in Asian and European cultural aesthetics visual styles.

我真的很喜欢我早期在英国的叙事片项目，因为它们通常着重于摆脱叙事惯例。

如果是说商业广告项目，我曾与不少意大利导演共事过，如Federico Brugia, Luca Maroni, Dario Piana等，他们极大地激发了我的创作灵感。让我意识到，拍摄广告需要通过探索去结合一些最新最先进的技术，并借此不断地去更新自己的风格和视觉手法。

我发现我目前在中国的项目也非常令人兴奋。我有机会与不少才华横溢的上海导演、电影人进行合作，比如：王砺珉 , 李静波, Shigeto Rage Sayama, Howie Lin, or Fender Hsu等。我们的美学视觉风格都根植于亚洲与欧洲的文化，通过填补彼此的空白，把我们的知识和价值观进行公开探讨，我们在克服巨大挑战的同时，也激励了彼此，拥有了共同进步的机会。
