Jenny Chou
co-founder of ATLAS studio
Jenny Chou is the co-founder of ATLAS studio in Beijing. She earned her Architecture degree at the Rhode Island School of Design, and her master’s degree in Urban Design at Columbia University. The studio is rooted in the discipline of architecture but undertakes projects that utilize multiple disciplines of design, as well as research, curation, strategy, and community building. The studio’s philosophy is shaped by an interest the evolution of culture and place which leads to research that mines various contexts for unexpected stories, details, or overlooked materials and techniques. The studio has shown work both in China and internationally, including at the 2018 Venice Biennale of Architecture, the 2016 International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam, the 2016 Shanghai Art & Design Biennale, Design Shanghai, and Beijing Design week .
The studio have won numerous awards including being put on Architectural Digest’s China 100 list, Architectural Digest Chinese New Talents. The works have also been written about and published internationally in publications such as The New York Times, CNN, Icon, Demo, Wallpaper, Architectural Digest, and Elle Decor, amongst others. Mostly recently she is involved with documentary film making. Her produced documentary short “White Joy” has been selected as official competition selection in many international film festivals.
